DEVIL’S DOOR

“Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.” (Prov.20:17).
“Bread of deceit” comes in different attractive forms and packages. They come as though from God, because most times they are what we desire. Devil is such a smart guy that he won’t waste his energy tempting us with what we don’t desire (James 1:14). For instance, every single woman desires a husband, every single man desires a wife. The poor wants to get rich, the sick desires healing etc. Everyone needs one form of bread or the other, however, not all bread are good for us. Some are deceitful, and opens devil’s door of destruction. Many had been destroyed trying to get rich, children, husbands etc.
God did not leave us empty handed on how to identify devil’s door. We have the Holy Spirit inside us that talks to us all the time; He also helps us to discern; even our conscience and tuition are all there to guide us. However, when desire gets the best of us, we lose touch of these ways we can identify bread of deceit. The devil knows that the best time to attack is when we are most vulnerable. When ever we start getting agitated, desperate, or feeling that God is wasting so much time over our case, they are danger signs of vulnerability the devil waits for before presenting bread of deceit to us. In their seemingly state of vulnerability, Daniel and his friends got a mouth watering offer from the king,
but they turned it down because they saw that it was a bread of deceit that will open devil’s door to them. By so doing, they preserved the integrity of the spirit
in them and the result of that? They were found better, not only in wisdom, knowledge, and skill, but in appearance too (Dan.1:3-19).
Sometimes it looks as though one loses when one rejects certain offers that appears good. We must always bear in mind that all that glitters is not gold. Considering who and whose we are first before jumping at any offer will save us from bread of deceit. Those offers you rejected because you wanted to remain a child of God, will never be in vain. The Lord you honoured will honour you back with something greater and better in Jesus name! “No one whose hope is in God will be put to shame” (Ps.25: 3).
